Post Bicycle Mail Art exhibit news

Last night, we went to our local for a late dinner, after the server took our order, another server, whom we've known for years, came over to me and said - "you left some of your mail here." I was puzzled by this, which she noticed on my face. "The bicycle mail." That was even more puzzling. "Last week, when cleaning up, we found mail with your address on it." She went and got it from the bar, where they'd stashed it. This is what she handed me.

What happened is this, or so I surmise - Someone chose a couple of the entries from the Mail Art exhibit that were in a box at the Coffee shop being offered to the public for free, to take home and display. They could donate to an animal rescue organization or not as they chose. AND that person, had dinner at Joe's Inn (our local) and left their choices behind. Boo Hoo, they are probably really sad about this. I have no idea who they could be, but I'll keep these safe and if anyone ever mentions to me that they lost their lovely choices, I can give them back.

What a successful exhibit! My most successful, and made so by ALL of the participants.  Oh happy heart!

 Very exciting to open the Richmond2015 app and see that OUR Mail Art exhibit had top billing! Yay, us.

I went to the venue today to see, in person, what an imaginative way that the work was installed. It was better than I'd hoped. The work is in the front window and in a prominent display inside the shop.

Well done, thanks to all who sent in Mail Art, and the installation team. Excellent show, which will get lots of viewers.

It's so exciting to know that the exhibit has such good publicity.

Installation: first photo

This is the first photo of the installation. These are in the window, the rest are in the shop. The folks at the venue did a wonderful job. I can't wait to go over there and get more photos to post.

He included a note of explanation on this  postcard. 

I'm at all sorry - it tickled me to receive a full sized bicycle tire section!
I'm sure the venue and the viewers will enjoy it, also.

Send Bicycle related Mail Art for the exhibit!

From September 19 to 27, 2015, Richmond, Virginia, USA, will host an amazing event for bicyclists. The cyclists will come from all over the world. I'm very excited about this. The prediction is that we'll have 450,000 visitors to our small city during that time.  Read about it HERE.

So, what does a Mail Artist do? She starts a Mail Art call! I've enlisted two venues, so far, where work will be displayed in West Main Village  and Carytown near the routes or where visitors will circulate. I'd love to have lots and lots of Mail Art to exhibit.

I'll be posting entries on this blog, as they arrive in the post.

It's always nice to see mail arrive from Jaromir, whom I think of as an old friend, though we've never met. He has generously sent his lovely work to many Mail Art exhibits.

He has a distinctive style that is whimsical and interesting.

I'm very fond of cats and like to image my cat having adventures but never thought of him taking off on a bicycle. Now I will.

You can't appreciate how lovely this entry is as it's under plexiglass and didn't scan optimally.

It's a collage of the four hand cut circular shapes and colored with lemon juice.

It arrived with a CD of Mr. Matarrese's original guitar compositions. The album is entitled UPHO unidentified playing high object. I'm hoping that one of the venue's will be able to play it at some point during the exhibit.
